\n\t\tHelping inspire, inform, and empower people affected by cancer.\n\t<\/h2>\nDustin Mesick, RDN, and Colin Goodwin, PsyD, are cancer survivors inspired by their personal experiences to help others.\nColin and Dustin had the same goal of helping cancer patients and survivors. Colin received his Doctorate in Psychology, helping those dealing with the process mentally. While Dustin chose to help heal the body through nutrition. \n\u00a0\nOriginally, they had set out to create a support group focused on the body and mind. However, that shifted with the emergence of the pandemic, evolving into a podcast.\n\u00a0\nThe Sick & Good Podcast is designed to help you navigate your cancer diagnosis and take steps toward health and well-being.\n

\n\t\tWhy Sick & Good?\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

The name Sick & Good is a double entendre, incorporating the last names of the co-hosts. Dustin MeSICK<\/strong> and Colin GOOD<\/strong>win. It also incorporates the nature of a physical illness (sick) and overall wellness (good). <\/p>\n\t\t

\n\t\tDustin Mesick, RDN\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

My name is Dustin, and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Nourishment is a powerful way to care for ourselves and those we love. I’m a firm believer in eating a variety of foods, creating balance in life, and becoming our best selves. I became passionate about nutrition through my battle against a rare form of cancer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During my treatment, I was completely overwhelmed, had little desire to eat, and struggled with motivation to take care of myself. I understand the challenges patients go through with food on a deep level.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I graduated with a bachelor of science in nutrition, dietetics and food science and completed my supervised hours to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I have experience in hospitals, eating disorder treatment centers, substance abuse treatment centers, community nutrition programs and within the outpatient setting.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I am thrilled to be co-host for the Sick and Good podcast alongside Dr.\u00a0Colin\u00a0Goodwin. This podcast has become dear to my heart in sharing with listeners educational information pertinent to the cancer treatment process.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"Sick\n\t\t\t\t\"Sick\n

\n\t\tColin Goodwin, PsyD\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

Colin was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) at 19 and received an allogenic stem-cell transplant (from his sister) at 20 years old. Complications from treatment and a desire to connect to others with similar experiences led to attending group therapy. This developed into a personal network of support from cancer patients, survivors, and healthcare professionals. Many of these relationships he still maintains to this day.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While\u00a0recovering from his bone marrow transplant, treatment-related side effects caused physical limitations. Thus necessitating an academic change, he was immediately drawn to the study of psychology.\u00a0Colin\u00a0received his undergraduate degree at the California State University Channel Islands (which was\u00a0once a state mental hospital). He then graduated from California Lutheran University, completing his Masters in 2010 and Doctorate in 2020.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Colin\u00a0is a licensed clinical psychologist and currently works as a generalist within an adult psychiatry department at a healthcare system. He has clinical experience working with cancer patients and survivors and serves as a psychosocial service coordinator for the oncology\u00a0department.\u00a0Colin\u00a0is interested in psychosocial research related to the cancer field. His previous research includes facilitating a young adult cancer support group to study the effects of navigating healthcare\u00a0systems and the effects of light therapy on depression, fatigue, and quality of life in cancer patients and survivors.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Colin is interested in conversing with healthcare professionals to explore their motivations for their line of work, discuss relevant research and findings, and ultimately promote wellness for listeners in the cancer community.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Colin enjoys living in Northern California with his wife and two children.<\/p>\n
